Graebel Companies, Inc. Mourns the Passing of Founder David W. Graebel

Denver, Colo. (December 5, 2023) – Graebel Companies, Inc., a leading provider of global talent mobility solutions for some of the most recognizable brands in the world, announced that David W. (Dave) Graebel, the company’s founder and chairman emeritus, passed away on Nov. 29. He was 94 years old. The organization continues under the leadership of son Bill Graebel, current chair and CEO, along with its senior executive team.

Dave established Graebel as a local moving company with one truck in Wausau, Wisconsin, in 1950. Since then, Graebel evolved and expanded into a leading global provider of talent mobility solutions. It is one of the largest family owned, privately held relocation companies in the world, managing over 96,000 annual mobility initiations across 165 countries and employing 1,000+ people worldwide.

During his nearly seven decades in the relocation industry, Dave introduced best practices, including 24/7/365 WorldWatch® customer service accessibility, Value Pricing System® simplified tariff, performance guarantees, and Web-based technology with real-time reporting for clients. These efforts to build, shape and define exceptional relocation experiences and duty of care to clients and supplier partners led to the highest honors from local and global business organizations, recognizing Dave’s strategic vision, business acumen and charitable efforts.

“During this difficult time, we are remembering Dave’s larger-than-life presence, enthusiasm and dedication to Graebel, the global mobility industry, friends and family,” said Ron Dunlap, Graebel Companies president. “We proudly carry on his legacy and live the values he exemplified — truth, love and integrity — which are the foundations of the company he built.”

Dave served as CEO until 2007, when Bill took over that position in a planned leadership transition. Dave remained chairman of the Board of Directors until 2018, when he was named chairman emeritus and Bill added the title of chair.

In addition to his son Bill, Dave Graebel is survived by his five grandchildren, Jessica, Luke, Will, David and Danny and 2 great-grandchildren.
